Our History

Town and Country Scale Owner and President Gary Pritchard is originally from the small town of Saddlebrook, New Jersey. Gary joined the Navy following high school, serving in Vietnam aboard the USS Forrestal with future Senator John McCain. After leaving the Navy, Gary attended school while working overnight shifts as a wireman to support his young daughter, Rachel. Once he earned his Electronics Technician degree, Gary began working as a research technician.

In 1976, Gary sold everything he owned that wasn't scale related and started Town and Country Scale in Phoenix. His first work truck was a '64 Ford with no back window and no tailgate. Gary was installing at least one scale every week by the late 70's. In 1982, Town & Country Scale installed two sets of scales at the San Simon Port of Entry. The 60, 20 and 10 foot scales they installed along the side of the road are still in use three decades later.

In 1992, Gary created a fully electronic scale for hay balers, which he received a patent for three years later. The scale makes use of a unique three-load cell system and a combination digital and analog filtering, a system that can accurately weigh bales within one pound while the baler is moving. Town & Country has sold over 100 of these systems to farms and ranches throughout the Southwest.
